And can also make a positive difference to the twitter users. To access twitter search users have to point their browsers to original summize domain or their search subdomain. The search usage and accessibility can be largely increased by simply having a search box or a link on any and all of the twitter pages. Besides showing the time taken to perform the search task, it is highly recommended to display the number of results and increment that number dynamically with the real time new tweets coming in. And is the ‘real time’ nature of twitter search preventing them from having a better pagination at the bottom or is it simply ‘nice to have’? Requiring manual intervention to view new incoming tweets on your search topic makes it readable and gives control to the searchers which is neat.
Controversy, arguments, debates & more. That’s mostly the blogospehere’s reaction to Twitter’s launch of ‘Suggested User’s new feature for new registrants. One of them has even gone on record in suggesting and offering dollars to buy a couple of years lock-in in the suggested user list. There could be a lucrative business model around this simple feature. Most of them on the suggested list have reached insane follower numbers upsetting those who had put in tons of effort to organically grow their follower base. To aviod misuse of this feature even if twitter monestises this feature, these suggestions could be based on newly registered user’s interests rather than blidnly throwing a list of suggestions.
This Greasemonkey user script helps add freshness to your Google search results in realtime by displaying the latest 5 tweets on top of natural Google Search results. Call it Google SERP’s going social if you will. After relevancy Twitter is all set to elevate the importance of freshness in the search ecosystem, which some say would only gain more momentum in the days ahead. What would be more useful is Google doing it by applying it’s algo on twitter streams to maintain the relevancy and filter any spammy tweets which is currently not possible with the browser addon. But Google may not want to display the tweets on the top of result pages.
Couple of things are now known and more or less accepted. Steve Jobs is not doing the keynote this time at MacWorld and that Apple may even pullout completely from MacWorld from the following year. Current economic situation is so bad, it might take a few years (2/3) to show signs of recovery. These are difficult times to add growth to your stake holders no matter how good a CEO you are. Sooner than later Apple need to find a suitable successor. Probably this could be the right time to begin the process. Your thoughts?
Microsoft redefines the ‘C’ in CPA model in advertising, calling it ‘Cashback‘. Is this like offering discounts in the form of cashback? The buyer is the publisher equivalent of CPC model. Though, this initiative will not generate any revenue for Microsoft – merely playing the role of facilitator, it’s intended to eat into the share of Google CPC, Amazon’s retail & eBay’s Buy It Now sales. Success primarily hinges on the search volume they can generate and this is where Y! search acquisition could help. But then again percentage of online shopping filtered though search may not be that high. Merchants who are advertisers in this model will fight to offer lowest prices [read more cashback] in an attempt to generate more sales.

Many startups are attempting to dethrone Google in the search game. Multiple approaches like Natural search, Human powered search, Live search without any index, vertical search & others are not making much headway. New German startup Faroo is trying it’s chance in search battle with a Peer-to-Peer approach. Their success would depend on gaining quick high usage which is very instrumental in independent user contributed search index. Is technology an answer to acquire search mind share? Mixing of social web with search might give Faroo a good chance inspite of the limitations.
Twitter allows only a maximum of 140 characters per tweet, which might at times be a limitation. As a workaround, some have been using ‘Online Clipboard’ services and in turn post that link on twitter which requires readers to click through. Twitzer – a Firefox plugin, offers a semi practical solution. Key-in as much text as you want, right click and choose to ‘Twitzer text’ which essentially makes it 139 characters with partial message on your twitter page and the rest of the message still needs a click through. However, if the readers also have this plugin installed, they can ‘De-twitzer Text’ and view the complete message within the user’s twitter page. Will this clutter the twitter pages grossly degrading it’s simplicity? Those used to twitter clients, the only option is to click through.

The commenting system built within friendfeed has the potential to take some of the conversation away from the original source. Brighter part is, it can add new audience into the conversation. Starting a topic within friendfeed and doing encouraging discussion is a bonus. Thanks to ‘Friendfeed Comments‘ Wordpress plugin which pulls the comments and Like’s back from friendfeed and creates a copy at the original source. It’s the friendfeed’s data openness along with their API, which has made this possible. This beta plugin would need more tweaking to make it perfect. Hopefully, other blogging platforms will soon enable their community with a similar usecase.
